M.P.'s apathy: Municipal corporation's indifference in harassing shops in Paradise Market

A supermarket was built near Paradise in Porbandar for more than a decade, but so far all the 60 shops in this market have not been successful. A decade later, the administration finally announced that as many as 60 shops were to be given turbans on a nine-year rental agreement. The monthly rent of a shop is Rs. From Rs. 10,588 to a maximum of Rs. 27,102 have been kept. GST has been set aside on this rent as well as a minimum of Rs. 3 lakh and a maximum of Rs. An upset price of 6 lakh has been kept. The prices and deposits were fixed based on the size of the shops as well as the shops inside the outside. Significantly, there were three harrajis, but in three attempts, not a single party showed interest in renting the shop, so the municipality proposed to the government in February 2023 to reduce the rent and even after that, the government finally approved the proposal. The government has reduced shop rent by 50 per cent but has asked for a 5 per cent hike in rent every year, the municipality had demanded 25 years from the government instead of a 9-year rent agreement in which the government has sanctioned 15 years and allowed a reduction of Rs 50,000 in each upset price. Even after more than two-and-a-half months since the proposal was approved, the municipal corporation and the current CORPORATION have not started the harraji process since that time. It has become necessary to carry out the Harraji process before these shops become dilapidated again at a time when the udashitanas are showing up.
