Govardhan Puja 2024: The festival of Govardhan Puja is celebrated on the Pratipada Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha, which will be on November 2, 2024 this year. The festival of Govardhan Puja is especially celebrated by Lord Krishna   (Lord Krisha) and the mother is dedicated to the cow. Therefore, Shri Krishna and the cow are worshiped in it. Why is Annakoot made on Govardhan Puja?

It is said that the reason behind making Annakoot on Govardhan Parvat is that when Indradev was raining heavily throughout the vraj, Lord Krishna protected everyone by lifting the Govardhan mountain with his little finger to protect the people of Vraj and their cows and calves.   In the end, Indra's pride was broken and he stopped the rain and apologized to Shri Krishna

After this, the people of Vraja prepared a variety of dishes and offered them to Lord Krishna, which is called Annakoot. Since then, the festival of Annakoot is celebrated every year on the pratipada of Kartik Shukla and chhappan bhog is offered to Lord Krishna

The religious significance of Annakut Importance

Annakoot festival has special significance in Hinduism. Devotees worship on this day by making govardhan mountain out of cow dung. On the day of Annakoot, the child form of Lord Krishna is worshiped and the Lord is also adorned. In many places, the staging of Krishna Bal Leela is also organized on this day

Annakoot Puja Rituals (Annakut Puja Vidhi 2024)

This day, govardhan mountain should be made out of cow dung in the house, courtyard, balcony or in any open and large place and worshiped with flowers, roli, akshat etc. Make beautiful figures with rice flour and rolly around the figure. Apart from this, the figure of Krishna is also made and a lamp is placed in the navel. An idol or picture of Lord Krishna is also kept at this place. Offer incense, naivedya, flowers, fruits, etc. in the puja and after the worship, lord Govardhan should be circumambulated seven times. The time from 06:33 am to 08:55 am on November 2, 2024 will be auspicious for Govardhan Puja or Annakoot Puja. Pastoralists also worship their cows and bullocks on this day

Annakoot Puja gets the blessings of Mother Annapurna

In Annakoot, 56 bhog is prepared for Lord Krishna, especially from vegetables and grains. It is also celebrated as a thanksgiving ceremony of Mother Earth. The belief behind it is that whatever food you get from Mother Earth should be used properly. By preparing annakoot as per the rituals and offering it to God, with the blessings of Maa Annapurna, there is never a shortage of food in the family and the food stock remains full
