There are 30 lakes that show the blue part in the map of the City Survey of Vadodara from 1884 to 1886

Vadodara: Man-made floods wreak havoc in Vadodara. Due to the floods, the lives and property of the people were severely damaged. However, due to this flood, the sins of the rulers are being revealed as the corruption of corruption has also been uprooted. For more than two decades now, several experts and organisations have been making clear representations on the issue of pressure on rivers and lakes. But the presentations are thrown into the garbage. One such submission was made with the report of a scientific survey that 30 lakes existed in Vadodara in 1886, but 13 of them have completely disappeared and the area of the 17 that remained has also decreased by 25 percent.

In 2009, Sanjeev Joshi, co-convener of Indiana's National Arts and Cultural Heritage- Gujarat, and his team  conducted scientific research on the subject of 'Vanishing Water Bodies in Vadodara' and submitted its report to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and the Gujarat government. Sanjeev Joshi says that we first studied the maps of the City Survey of Vadodara from 1883 to 1886 in which there were 30 lakes in the limits of Vadodara city. The total area of these 30 lakes was 149 acres.

A 2009 photo taken by Google Maps shows the remaining 17 lakes in Vadodara.

After which in 2009, a survey was conducted on the basis of Google Maps and it was found that out of 30 lakes, 13 lakes have ceased to exist and constructions have been done on them. The total area of the lakes which became extinct was 27 acres. The 17 of these 30 lakes that survived also saw a significant reduction in their area. The total area of these 17 lakes has come down from 121.6 acres in 1886 to 92 acres in 2009. A total of 13 lakes disappeared and there was a reduction of 56 acres in areas with the capacity to accommodate rainwater and vishwamitri flood water. After the floods in Vadodara in 2005, we conducted this survey so that there is no flood situation again and the report was submitted to the concerned authorities. Lakes including Gorwa and Gotri later merged into urban areas so it is not mentioned in this report.
