Mahatma Gandhi's great-granddaughter Neelamben Parikh passed away at the age of 92 in Navsari. He was the son of Ramiben, daughter of Gandhi's eldest son Harilal Gandhi. Neelamben has been living in Navsari for the last 37 years. Samir lived with Parikh. He breathed his last on Monday as he aged. His last rites were performed at Veeraval crematorium in Navsari on Tuesday morning. Several intellectuals and political leaders of the city were present on the occasion. Neelamben had her childhood and education in Mumbai. She served as the principal of Dakshinpath Vidyalaya in Vyara for several years. He had settled in Navsari since 1988. He met Mahatma Gandhi when he lived in Mumbai as a child and is learnt to have played in his lap. Neelamben wrote three books. His book 'Gandhiji's Lost Money Harilal Gandhi' was very much discussed. The book was an answer to the misinformation spread about his grandfather Harilal. He also wrote books titled 'Gandhiji's Sahasadhakas' and 'Wherever you are, there are mehakta raho'.
