Massive fire breaks out at Kolkata's Eden Gardens ahead of World Cup

The countdown to the ODI World Cup 2023 has begun. Many of the World Cup matches are also to be held at The Eden Gardens in Kolkata. In this situation, there has been an incident of fire in Eden Gardens before the World Cup. According to the information received, the fire broke out at around 11.50 pm yesterday. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. After which the work of extinguishing the fire was started.

Renovation work is underway in Eden

Before the World Cup, renovation work was going on at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the dressing room of Eden late last night. People working there had seen the fire first. After which the fire department was informed. The fire brigade brought the fire under control through two engines. Joint Secretary Debabrata Das reached the spot as soon as the news of the fire broke out at night. He expressed concern over the fire incident. He said the matter will be investigated and how the fire broke out will be seen.

Players' belongings burned in the fire

It is being said that the fire broke out in the false ceiling of the dressing room where the equipment of the cricketers was kept. Although the damage was not that big, but all the belongings of the players present there were burnt. At the initial stage, the fire is believed to be caused by a short circuit. However, the incident has raised questions over Eden's infrastructure during the renovation work for the upcoming World Cup. The cause of the sudden fire is being investigated.

5 matches to be played at Eden Gardens

Less than 2 months are left for the World Cup to start. Five important matches are to be played in Eden during the World Cup, so now the renovation work is going on in full swing. Eden's renovation is targeted to be completed by September 15. Meanwhile, ICC representatives have expressed satisfaction over the progress of the work. They will be back next month.
