He had so far filed as many as 66 RTI applications, with the help of which he would go to people and extort money, fearing fake legal action. Hemant Desai Four separate complaints have been registered against him at Mahidharpura police station. Hemant misused rti to target builders in the area and demanded money, fearing legal action. The modus operandi has come to the fore from the application of the alleged RTI activist to the extortion. On that basis the builders would be threatened with legal action and demanded ransom. Police investigation has revealed that in this way they have broken lakhs of rupees. She had given details of the construction to her husband and brother on the basis of which they too used to collect ransom. However, he has been granted anticipatory bail. This action is only against those misusing RTI: Police Under the guidance of Surat Police Commissioner Anupamsingh Gehlot, a team of DCP Rajdeepsingh Nakum of special operation group collected data from all the police stations and traced the accused. He further said that this campaign is being done only against those RTI activists who, after doing RTI, are wrongly harassing people and demanding ransom.
