In Bordikampa village of Modasa taluka of Aravalli district, farmers have registered a unique protest against the price of tomatoes sitting at the bottom. Farmers have expressed their anger by feeding tomatoes grown with their hard work to the animals. Farmers cultivating tomatoes in five bighas of land had invested heavily in expensive seeds and good health. Initially, there was a good price of 400 rupees for a maund, but in the last one week, there has been a big drop in the price. Despite the increase in demand during the wedding season, the price of tomatoes has come down from Rs 20 per kg to just 2-3 per kg. The problem is not limited to the farmers of Bordicompa alone, but all the tomato farmers across the district are facing this problem. There is a lot of anger among the farmers as the cost of production can also not be met. For some time now, farmers have turned to horticultural crops, but due to such prices, they have suffered huge losses.
