Nearly 63k Ganesha idols immersed in Surat

The city of Surat wrapped up its 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festivities with the immersion of about 62,942 idols in artificial ponds and the sea. Authorities started processions early to control crowds and expedite rituals. Despite a ban on large idols, some organizers installed statues as tall as 25 feet. The immersions proceeded smoothly throughout the day.
