A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Istanbul on April 23, causing widespread panic and building evacuations across the city. The tremor hit at 12:49pm local time during a national holiday, with its epicentre in Silivri, 80 km west of Istanbul, at a depth of nearly 7 km, according to Turkey’s AFAD disaster agency.Though no major damage was reported, residents on both shores of the Bosphorus fled buildings as the ground shook.
