In Ahmedabad, 108 ambulances are stuck throughout the day due to continuous increase in the number of vehicles, narrow roads, haphazard parking, lorry-galla pressures. In the morning and evening peak hours, after receiving calls to 108, there is a delay of 3 to 4 minutes on average in reaching the patient and reaching the hospital from there.
During the peak hours, 'Divya Bhaskar' sat in 108 and did a ground reality check and found that in Naroda, Kalupur, Sarkhej, ambulances are stuck in traffic for 5 to 7 minutes. Compared to 2023, there has been an average increase of one minute in the number of ambulances reaching the patient from the spot in 2024. While the peak hours i.e. between 8 to 11 in the morning and 5 to 8 in the evening, this time has increased to 2 to 4 minutes. There are 120 points in Ahmedabad where 108 ambulances are kept on standby, out of which there is a delay of 2 to 4 minutes in reaching the patient from 101 points. Naroda Patiya: Reached the patient within 10 minutes as soon as the emergency call was received. It took 31 minutes to reach the hospital with the patient as 108 were stuck in traffic. Work was going on on the road near Naroda Patiya and despite the signal, people were breaking the rules, due to which the road got jammed and 108 got stuck.
Kalupur: As soon as the call was received, the location reached 108 patients in four minutes. But while being taken to the Civil Hospital, the road was blocked due to the obstruction of rickshaws on the diversion road near Kalupur railway station, due to which five minutes 108 was stuck in traffic and a total of 36 minutes took to reach the hospital.
Sarkhej: When the SG left the highway after receiving the call, the signal was off and 108 was run on the service road. Traffic was jammed due to haphazardly parked cars going forward. 108 was stuck here for 7 minutes. Gradually the traffic cleared and moved on and reached the patient in 18 minutes. After that, within 1 minute, the patient was taken to the hospital in 11 minutes. The ambulance leaves within 30 seconds of receiving a call

It is not possible for 108 to use the BRTS track on this road, as many vehicles enter the track. There are obstacles due to vehicles parked on the road side.
